What is hormone imbalance? Hormonal imbalances result when there is an interruption in the normal function of the body hormones. To know more about what is a hormone imbalance, here’s a general idea about hormones and their roles in the body system.
Hormones are chemical substances that play most of the cell functions of the body. These hormones have essential functions in cell repair, appetite, growth, reproduction, fertility, and metabolism processes. These are the biological messengers that transfer signals to the body organs and to one another in order to maintain balance which helps a person to maintain a healthy body.
Hormones begin its functions when secreted from a gland, a body organ that produces signals to the cell in order to secrete them. Exocrine glands would include salivary, sebaceous, and sweat glands, which produce the hormones to the gland ducts that carry them to the target organs. The endocrine glands refer to parathyroid, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal glands, and sex glands (testes and ovaries), which directly release hormones into the blood of the person and transport to the target organs.
At times, the delicate balance of the hormones is interrupted. Hormonal imbalances could occur both in female and male individuals regardless of race and age, even if these are commonly manifested by older patients. Hormonal imbalances are naturally occurring events in the body like andropause and menopause, especially when the individual gets older, which impede the normal production of the body hormones.
Diabetes is a common type of hormonal imbalance that occurs in the body when there is not sufficient insulin, the hormone produced in the pancreas that affects the metabolism. The excessive or under-production of the hormones are commonly observed in younger individuals. Hormonal imbalances could also have a huge implication on the overall emotional and physical health of a person. Prolonged imbalances in the hormones could result in more fatal medical conditions in the future.
Now, we already know what is hormone imbalance and its effect on our body system. It is important to seek medical advice in order to have a proper diagnosis and intervention. This is considered to be one of the best ways to prevent the occurrence of hormonal imbalances and to maintain a healthy living.
