What is a gluten allergy? This is a medical condition the refers to the sensitivity to food items with gluten content. Gastrointestinal tract problems are among the common manifestations of gluten allergy. Intolerance or sensitivity to gluten-containing foods could be manifested by any individual. Glutenin and gliadin are two protein substances that comprise gluten. Wheat, rye, oats, and barley are food sources that are rich in gluten.

Some people are sensitive to gluten. Actually, people with a gluten allergy can have malabsorption problems in the small intestines, which could lead to several symptoms of gastrointestinal conditions. Gluten is not easily absorbed in the small intestines because that lining itself cannot bear or absorb it.

Gluten allergy can cause irritation of the small intestine lining, and such irritation could be mild, moderate, or severe. Gluten usually affects the villi in the small intestines; these are small-like projections which is responsible for the movements of food particles.

Lack of vitamins and minerals are sometimes caused by severe damage in the villi of the intestines, sometimes due to gluten sensitivity. In the most severe cases, gluten allergy or sensitivity can result in a more complicated condition known as celiac disease. The person with this condition may have already damaged intestinal lining by the immune system due to gluten consumption.

Strict implementation of a gluten-free diet is very important for those who have celiac disease. Among the reason why people are having gluten allergy is it’s because of severe body disease, physical injuries, traumatic shock, and hereditary.

What are gluten allergy symptoms? The gluten allergy symptoms can differ greatly from one individual to another. Sometimes mild gluten allergy is asymptomatic. If there are signs and symptoms of gluten allergy in individuals, it could either be manifested right after the consumption of gluten food or several hours after consumption. The following are a few of the common gluten allergy or symptoms.

•Flatulence
•Constipation
•Diarrhea
•Bloating and gas
•Abdominal cramps and pain
•Skin rashes

Take note of the different gluten allergy symptoms mentioned above, and observe if you have those; if yes, then have yourself check and evaluated through a gluten intolerance test. If it is positive, then eradicate gluten from your diet.
